The debate on homework

First, all homework is part of schoolwork that a pupil or student needs to do at home. Home to some people can be hostel or dormitories. Teachers usually give homework to students at school. It is a kind of work that helps students go through what they have learned on that day. Homework varies from one school to another so that some schools give a lot of homework while other schools give less homework. The amount of homework in some schools depends on how old the students are, whereby students who are older and in higher classes mostly get homework that is a lot unlike for the students who are younger and in lower levels.

Some students and parents say that homework is essential and others say that homework is not very important.

There is a dispute between parents and educators about the amount of homework that is right for students in elementary schools and if homework should is mandatory for every student.

Say, for example, one’s child is in the middle of a game playing with their toys, and they seem to be enjoying what they are doing. Then you as a parent is watching your child play with her toys, but then the times for homework reaches. Out of duty, you tell your child to organize himself or herself for homework say math homework, “ I do not like homework!” he cries, you will tend to concur with him, this acceptance comes when you are feeling frustrated and exhausted after struggling to convince your child to do the homework.

Research by detractors of homework shows that homework in the early elementary grades has not got any demonstrated benefits. The younger students are not ready to understand the habits of work and learn the management of time that night-time homework teaches. According to the pro-homework side, parents and educators are in favor of the motion that says that homework is vital for backing up what is being taught in school and also that homework develops students for the classwork that they will have in the next stages of the studies that are to say college, high school, and middle school.

Research indicates that under certain conditions and environments, homework has a very positive impact on individual students. For example, if a student has disabilities of learning, that student can benefit from homework. Doing a lot of homework harms performance academically. The maximum number of hours a high school student should take to homework should be about less than one hour, whereas, for a middle school student, it should about less than half an hour. Homework is sometimes assigned to students for them to find time for reading as a pleasure. Pope says, “Academic success and time for reading correlate.” And that is one thing that schools should encourage.

Some schools in the past years announced the no-homework policy. Some students got asked to read from home instead of doing homework every evening. Other schools sent letters to parents elucidating the reasons as to why homework was not to students.

Conclusion

Homework develops attitudes and habits that work together to a student’s advantage far beyond the class. The parent should ensure that they lay a foundation on good homework practices to make sure that it is beneficial to the student all around.
